Starlight Gowns from a Galaxy Far, Far Away
With a bit of help from our galactic friends, we have been delivering ultra-soft, comfortable Star Wars-themed Starlight Gowns since 2017.
In collaboration with Disney and Lucasfilm, patients in hospitals across the country can dress up as their favorite Star Wars characters, like Chewbacca and R2-D2.
In honor of May the Fourth, a day Star Wars fans have chosen as a nod to "May the Force be with you," we wanted to share the difference Star Wars-themed hospital gowns made at AMITA Health Women & Children's Hospital in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.
Anyone can be a Star Wars fan, no matter your age—just ask seven-year-old Aidan! When he went to AMITA Health, he was happy to choose from a selection of Star Wars-themed gowns featuring familiar and beloved characters.
"Our friend Aidan was extremely excited to be able to select an R2-D2 gown because it was one of his favorite characters from the (Star Wars) movies," said Katie, Coordinator of Child Life Services at AMITA Health.
Hospital wear is often a source of discomfort for seriously ill kids. Transitioning from their clothes to hospital gowns can be extremely stressful, but choosing what he wore in the hospital helped Aidan express himself through his appearance.
Starlight Gowns are specially designed to provide procedural and emotional support. They feature snaps on the sleeves and ties down the side to provide better coverage for kids and easier access for hospital staff during medical procedures.
"Hospital staff and parents alike are very impressed with the quality of the fabric and the conscientiousness of the strategically placed ties and snaps to provide our patients with a sense of modesty. Thank you for this wonderful donation of a fun, popular, and modern hospital gown that is enjoyed by a diverse pediatric population," said Katie.
Today, like all days, we cherish our connection to the Star Wars family and our friendship with Disney and Lucasfilm.
Thank you for helping us deliver happiness. May the Fourth be with you!
