Twitch Streamer CalvinThomasMusic Jams Out to Help Out Starlight Children’s Foundation
This month, Starlight is honoring Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by hosting the third annual Stream For Starlight (S4S) campaign — a month-long virtual fundraiser that invites streamers, musicians, artisans, gamers, and chefs to stream content and raise money to deliver happiness to seriously ill kids.
To celebrate S4S 2021, we’re highlighting content creators to showcase the creative ways you can get involved!
Have you met multi-instrumentalist, S4S Twitch streamer CalvinThomasMusic? His tight-knit community prefers to call him Calvin and, in only two and a half years of streaming, he has brought together music-lovers that are always up to jam out and support one another.
Calvin is proud that his community is a haven for technical education, musical inspiration, and loads of fun.
“In my channel, we do cover songs, originals, live learns (that is, tunes that are learned and played on the stream), improv jams, and even live looping. It's really just nonstop fun. We also chat a lot about music gear, games, TV shows, and food — although food and music gear are always our favorite topics, haha!”
While Calvin’s channel has a lot of educational value for amateur musicians and technical gearheads, he loves using his improvisation skills to makes the experience nonstop fun for everyone involved. Text-to-speech (TTS), an engagement feature that allows the audience to type text that is then output as speech on stream, helps keep it lively.
“One time during my stream, TTS was repeating ‘ShowLove1’ and it was hilarious! Right away, I was ready to add to the craziness. I started banging on my guitar rhythmically to the sound alert and, as one would imagine, it worked and made my day! We ended up laughing uncontrollably. It was perfect.”
In 2020, Calvin joined S4S and raised over $3,000 in support of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Starlight Gaming especially resonated with him because he understands the power gaming has in delivering entertainment, healthy distraction, and happiness for hospitalized kids around the country.
This year, he is part of the first-ever Starlight Summit in partnership with LANFest. Tune in to StarlightUS on Twitch on September 24 and 25 to see community events like pancake stacking, artisan showdowns, Minecraft battles, and more!
