The Importance of Immunizations
August is Immunization Month and Starlight wants to highlight how important it is that everyone, regardless of age, gets vaccinated against diseases. This is essential to protect ourselves and those around us that are unable to get vaccinated or have a weakened immune system, through herd immunity (community immunity).
At Starlight, we understand how essential this protection is for those around us that are vulnerable, such as a child going through treatment for cancer — they are more vulnerable to infections and their immune system isn’t strong enough to fight off those infections. Plus, with vaccination, you are also protecting yourself!
While many vaccine-preventable diseases are not common in the US, such as Diphtheria, Polio, and Rubella, they have not been fully eradicated globally – which means that travelers to the US can bring those viruses and bacteria to the US and possibly infect those not vaccinated.
We all want to do what we can to keep ourselves and those we love safe and healthy. The best thing you can do is to make sure to get vaccinated at the recommended time.

COVID-19 Update – June 2022
As Covid-19 continues to spread in communities across the country and world, many parents are eagerly waiting for their child to be eligible for vaccination, while others have questions about the vaccines for children.
In June, the FDA approved emergency use of the Moderna Covid-19 vaccine and the Pfizer-BioNTech Covid-19 vaccine for children and infants 6 months and older of age.
