The Building of the New Starlight Nintendo Gaming Station

For the past 28 years, Starlight has partnered with Nintendo of America to deliver happiness to seriously ill children and their families through video games and Starlight Gaming. This partnership has delivered 7,200 Starlight Nintendo Gaming stations to over 800 hospitals and medical centers all over the country.

In December 2019, Starlight announced the newest addition to our Starlight Gaming program, the Starlight Nintendo Switch Gaming station, which comes preloaded with more than 25 games from Super Mario Party to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Pokémon: Let’s Go Pikachu.

Because of the incredible employees at Nintendo, these Gaming stations are ready to be delivered to Starlight hospital partners and into the hands of seriously ill children.

For every iteration of the Starlight Gaming station, Nintendo converts part of its warehouse into a Gaming station assembly line and employees from across the company come together for this very special project.

When asked why he is so proud of these Gaming stations, Don James, Executive Vice President of Operations at Nintendo of America, explained “The one thing that makes me the proudest is knowing that a lot of Nintendo employees and our management were able to build something that can provide a lot of comfort, distraction and make a child’s life a little bit better.”

But what makes these Starlight Gaming stations so special?

“The overall build quality of these [Gaming stations] are phenomenal. We put a lot of effort into making sure these are going to long surpass their life expectancy. When somebody spends the money to donate one, you’re not just buying a system, you’re not just donating a system. You are actually donating on-going technical support for the Gaming station that the hospital will get at no-cost to them,” said Erich Britton, Quality Control at Nintendo.

Specifically manufactured to meet strict infection safety protocols, Starlight Gaming stations can roll anywhere in the hospital and easily used to keep hospitalized kids entertained and distracted especially as many playrooms are closed due to COVID-19.
